Support for people affected by Queensland's ban on gender-affirming healthcare
At NeuroBeyond, we understand that Trans Rights are Human Rights. To do our part, we are currently offering reduced counselling session fees for trans and gender-affirming young people, their families, friends and supporters affected by Queensland's ban on gender-affirming healthcare. Eligibility criteria below.
The current situation in Queensland:
In January 2025, the Queensland Health director-general, David Rosengren, banned public doctors from prescribing puberty blockers and gender-affirming hormones to new patients (for young people under the age of 18).
A mother of a gender-diverse child took the state ban to the Supreme Court, and on 28th of October 2025, the Supreme Court ruled that the Queensland Government acted unlawfully when it suspended care for trans and gender-diverse youth. Justice Peter Callaghan accepted arguments that the directive was unlawful because it was issued without adequate consultation, and that the decision to issue it should be set aside.
Six hours after the Supreme Court ruling, the Queensland Health Minister, Tim Nicholls, reinstated the ban, which is proposed to remain in place until after the Queensland Government receives and responds to the findings of the Vine Review. The Review’s scope and approach have been widely criticised by experts and community advocates for overlooking lived experience and established clinical evidence.
